Social Networking for Business: the Legal Nightmare

Date: Wed, Nov 11th, 2009 6:00:01 pm | Location: IBM Global Technology Services, 76/78 Upper Ground, London SE1 9PZ | Speaker: Adrian Marlowe, Lawspeed

The growth of Social Networking has been well documented and there are clear opportunities for employers to access a wider network of candidates through personal recommendations.  Despite the difficulties which can follow personal recommendations, many employers have successfully used networking to enlarge the pool of quality candidates.

What most organisations are not fully aware of are the implications of jumping into a lively network where they have little control over both process and outcome.   And many of these situations yield innumerable legal difficulties which are barely appreciated let alone understood by any of the parties.

Allied to this, there is a new debate on what constitutes best practice in Social Networking to minimise legal risk, or even whether there can ever be best practice.   This is pioneering work and this presentation will be an exciting session which will no doubt be enhanced by contributions from the floor.

The Society is fortunate enough to be able to welcome and draw on the experiences of Adrian Marlowe, MD of the specialist recruitment and employment law consultancy Lawspeed, Recruitment Society member, and chair of the Association of Recruitment Consultancies. As a regular speaker on the subject, Adrian will be offering some incisive insight into this fast growing and topical issue.

The presentation will run from 6.30 - 7.45, and will be preceded by drinks from 6.00 pm and will be followed by networking and refreshments.  The evening will finish at 9.00 pm.

We should like to thank IBM Global Technology Services for their sponsorship and support for this event.
